The top players make far more than $100,000. That might be how much prize money they make for actual StarCraft, but they have sponsors that earn them so much more.

And StarCraft is a hugely different game than Counter-Strike. They would get owned hard. There have only been two non-Koreans to ever be successful in Korean StarCraft leagues.

Wemade FOX just signed moon to a 3 year deal. Making him the richest Wc3 player in the world.

After spending three years in Meet Your Makers, which let go of their Warcraft III and Starcraft squads in January due to “strategy concern”, Jae Ho 'Moon' Jang (http://www.sk-gaming.com/player/140), one of the most illustrious players - if not the most - penned a three-year contract with WeMade FOX that worth 700,000,000 won, approximately 473,037 USD based on exchange rate today.

That's crazy that they make so much money for starcraft ^^. But then again its a korean game (correct me if i am wrong) and from what i have heard the koreans also make their own versions/mods of certain games then play them professionally. They have their own version of Counter Strike called Sudden Attack (I think that's the name) and they do that with a lot of games that aren't made by Koreans lol.

I actually registered to just post in this forum for starters.

Let's start off with some info.

Greg "IdrA" Fields is a pro-gamer for CJ Entus in Korea. Currently B-team, but he holds a pro-gamer license. How is he in Korea? He won a tournament over a year and a half ago held by IEG who owns eSTRO (whom you all know from CS, I'm sure). He spent about 6-8 months on eSTRO before being transferred to CJ Entus. Greg has been in Korea for over a year now, and let me point some things out. He has been playing SC for a while. He is currently making so little money that he is playing in a tournament that has a $250 cash prize for 1st place. He's not even guaranteed to win this tournament.

Sure, BoxeR (Lim Yo Hwan) and NaDa (Lee Yoon Yeol) make 6 figures a year, but most progamers in Korea do not. In fact, a very select few do. Jaedong (Lee Jae Dong) just won the Batoo OSL (the most prestigious professional StarCraft tournament in Korea) and made around $40K USD. Second place made about $10K. They have 6 major tournaments a year. Usually the winners aren't the same for all 3. A player might win 2 or 3, but never do they win all 6.

Basically what I'm saying is that the progamer lifestyle isn't all great like some think it is.

well first of all these korean sc players (the ones you can see on tv) they have salary so the tournament money is not the only money you make.

second, all these teams have a house for the 8 players to live in and lan. (kind of like what J lake did with complexity)

third, of course idra doesnt make much money, he is on B team. you are saying col.cs from c3 challenge should be making a lot of money, which is not the case. Gamers life is not too bad in korea.. at least from look of things... its kind of like cgs except more money involved despite the fact that sc is only popular in korea.

Basically what i am saying is that the real "pro" one good enough where ppl expect you to win at the lan tournament; its a lot better off in south korea than america.

What he is saying is that it does in fact suck to be a gamer unless you are part of the top 10% who has a big name sponsor and can actually do this for a full time living, otherwise it's pretty much the same as it is here.
