I read some reviews but I want gamers' opinions on this. The price difference is $15 for me and I want something thats
- durable
- good for music
- amazing for CS

shoot at it!

Well, the 5H V2's are nice, comfy for me, but they didn't last very long. Now I can only hear out of one ear. Not going to vote because I have done any research on the other, but at least letting you know how the V2's are. The sound wasn't THAT amazing, but pretty good :).

Well you can rule out the 5H v2. It uses horrible thin strands of wire supported with paper (that's right, paper) which breaks incredibly easily.

5hv2 are bad for music
get some siberia neckbands, great for music and great for cs AND comfy, and very durable.

I use the HD595 (technically identical to the HD555) and they are absolutely amazing and extremely comfy. But you should use a really good sound card, such as a X-Fi, to use the HDs to the full extend. For music they have full bass and a crystal clear sound and you will hear sounds you never notived before with other headphones.
For CS, prepare to be banned from tons of servers for cheating, because you hear footsteps and other sounds across the map, which often lead to prefire. For someone with poor sound equipment it make the impression of wallhacking, because you hear the enemy so much sooner.

The 5hv2 comes not even close to the sound quality of the HD555/595. The big weak point of the Sennheiser is, that they are hifi headphones and therefore have no mic, like a real headset.

Nobody's brought this up yet so I will.

The razer card/headset combo is stellar, and they look sexy. Had them both since release and haven't had any problems at all. The only complaint I have with them is they don't let me pick on razer support geeks ='[

Wow, I didn't expect this much feedback this soon! Thanks a lot guys! I'm going to order my HD555's tonight. I have a regular Soundblaster soundcard of some sort (not onboard) so I guess I am gonna have to order a new soundcard as well. Thanks a lot everyone!!

Well I hope your HD555's will do a great job although the lack of a microphone causes a problem for many players, the sound quality of the headphones you are getting should compensate. I personally use the old school siberia headsets and , although the microphone wire is extremely long compared to the headsets, the sound is pretty good and so is my mic.

I forgot to vote. I had to pick the 5H's cause they are the only thing close to the neckbands. I've never tried the HD555.

I use the 5H v2's with the usb soundcard. On windows Vista they worked perfectly with the usb soundcard. When I recently switched back to Windows XP, the usb soundcard would not function correctly. I tried almost anything I could think of to no avail. Steelseries gives great support and the headset is amazing.

They are both good, really just depends if you want an attached microphone or not.

ATH AD700 is better then both IMO. Excellent soundstage (positioning).
If you need to use it at a loud LAN, and have some seal, then get the closed variation: ATH A700 - it gets equally good reviews.

^_^

5H is for "gamers" and therefore an overpriced scam and not a professional product. If you don't have the cash, get the Koss KSC-75 for $20 shipped and enjoy much better sound quality and positioning then the 5H.

I use a separate microphone, clip on.

HD55 are good for music, very durable, and amazing for cs.
5HV2 are bad for music, not durable, and amazing for cs.
YOU CHOOSE!

I realize this isn't a choice, but I would really recommend Icemats. They are big, but they are extremely comfortable and have great sound quality. They also go over your ears and eliminate some background sounds that might be present. They are a bit pricey too I think, unless it dropped recently which I'm guessing it probably did a bit... but they are well worth it as long as you take care of them. I'm not saying they are fragile by any means, but mine continuously fell off my desk and eventually some pieces of plastic broke off and exposed the wires... led to their death :/

Thats a known issue with the 5hV2s, if you go to the steelseries headset and fill out an RMA, they will send you a new headset.

hd555 are superior to the 5H in terms of sound quality, the only downside is their just headphones so you need to put a mic around your neck or get a clip on one.

I agree for the 5H v2 I'll go for this, and why? because you are asking for gamers opinion and this is my reason, this headset has been used by talented gamers to win major international events like Electronic Sports World Cup, World e-Sport Games, World Series of Video Games, Kode 5, World Cyber Games, Samsung Euro Championship, ESL Extreme Masters and many others so this is the evidence that this is really good.

I've used my HD 555 pretty much the last 6 years... now they are quite worn, but they have survived so far and they still have a great sound quality. I've tried some others too like Siberia v1, 5H v2 and so on, but if sound quality is important then I'd go for either Sennheiser or Koss for both gaming and music purposes

I gotta say I just got these Tactic 3D alphas from sound blasters and NO joke im loving em , the 3D surround sound really helps in cs. I know that coL is sponsored by them and all, but im just giving you my 2cents about it im really really digging em. and i listen to a lot of music , soudns so good :D I used to have steel series headsets also , but after like a year they would go bad for me every time. So we see how long these bad boys last :D

ALSO if i had to pick it be the 5h v2... IF I HAD TO, however for smaller price ide just go with the ones i have now cuzz the quality is worth it...
