:| My team is attending ETS next week and we were debating hotel vs. hostel! Reading this, I thought some gamer got attacked in a hostel.. but that is very unfortunate..

A sad situation made more dire by the GotFrag forum community.
Regardless ESL, organizers of the Extreme Masters III tournament, are housing all players in various homes of local German families in Hannover, Germany as it seemed to be the most cost efficient route of providing lodging. While it was the fault of 4 individuals solely it could have been prevented one way or another and Hostile would be "home" and not recovering in a hospital after getting assaulted and robbed by 4 individuals who used a firearm.

Sorry, but I have to be cliche` here. You can't put price tags on human lives. Maybe they'll think about this next time and not house people in such sketchy areas, or better yet just get them hotel rooms within walking distance from the event venue...penny pinching fuckers.

As an update Hostile will be staying in a hotel (provided by Gravitas Gaming).

I believe the thing is that CeBit is a huge annual event in Germany and Hannover isn't a huge city which means that many hotels are booked. Also, because hotel owners know there will be loads of people coming there that week, the prices may be higher. That is probably why ESL chose to give players housing with local families. While that would be alright in my opinion if the house would be in a good neighbourhood and the family would speak English, it's extremely strange that they accept as an accomodation alternative some crappy house in a remote area. Also from what I have read, many of the families don't even speak English. They seem to be separating players from the same teams to different areas as well if I understood Hostile correctly which is pretty dumb.

This whole situation should not have happened. Teams should be situated together and be provided adequate transportation to and from the event.

Yeah, pretty sad when you have people like HappyMinti living with an old guy who likes to cluck at his chickens.
