I haven't done an overclocking with a CPU, though I have done so with my graphics card. I am wondering if any of you have any advice upon whether or not I should be overclocking my CPU, and if so, guiding me through the process (eg. bios, what to change, etc.).

System Specifications

HP a1440n
- 300W stock power
- 820i Pentium D @ 2.8GHZ DUAL CORE, 2 Caches
- EVGA 9400GT @ 512MB, 16 streams, OC to:
680 Core Clock
1700 Shader Clock
600 Memory Clock
- PHILIPS DVD8851
- 3072 MB (3 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM )
- No dedicated soundcard
- Modem removed.

Observed Temperatures, LOAD

Here are temperatures of my Hard Drive, CPU, and GPU under load:

Processor Temperature : 40 °C
Power/Aux Temperature : 66 °C
ACPI Thermal Zone : 40 °C

NVIDIA GeForce 9400 GT : nVidia Driver
GPU Temperature : 52 °C
GPU Fan : 100%

Hard Disk Monitoring : S.M.A.R.T
Hard Disk Maxtor 6L250S0 : 41 °C

(I manually configured the GPU fan to be 100%.)

I really don't know what my current power drain is (I have been searching Google for such software that would indicate what it is) but I assume I am near the limit or so, and I believe the following indicates the current use of power by my CPU: Thermal Design Power : 89 W, so if someone has such a tool to measure the power usage, or an accurate approximation, then please post it!

Can I overclock my CPU (even a bit) with my current situation? I do not have the option of purchasing a PSU to replace my current one.

I provide my thanks to the Complexity Community as usual.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to ask: will I see a moderate increase in system/gaming performance with an overclocking with my CPU? Approximately how many FPS for let's say... CSS, or Supreme Commander FA?

Oh, and here apparently is more information:

Mainboard Upgradeability :
Socket/Slot : Socket 775
Upgrade interface : ZIF Socket
Supported Speed : 3800 MHz (or more)
Supported Voltage : Unspecified

Thanks for the link, peakz. I will see if I receive any information from there.

Thanks again!

I wouldnt recommend overclocking its pointless for the system your running, you see improvements in gameplay really at all. A custom heatsink is golden when ocing aswell.
