So I'm sitting here at work, getting paid to do nothing because the job is associated with K-12 Arizona school faculty and they are all on holiday break. Then, it hits me, what is the current state of the esports community?

We've spent a lot of time evaluating Complexity's situation, along with, other former-CGS teams. However, I am curious, where does the current state of esports stand? Do you feel, with the dissolve of the CGS, that esports stands a better fighting chance than it did before it existed? In addition, do you think the purchase of CAL will greatly effect the semi-professional structure of gaming? Further, do you think there will be a level of coexistence between Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike Source tournaments in the future? Or, do you think that one or the other will dominate the scene? Given the drastic changes of the last ~2 years, do you feel that the esports community has lost sight of the values and fun of gaming and has shifted toward more of a capitalistic approach, in that, it has simply become an alternative option to making a living? Lastly, if you could see one game reintroduced to the professional scene (minus Counter-Strike 1.6), what would it be and why?

This will be the start of a series I will label as, Monday's Questions. I'd like to get the feedback of the gaming community in this time of transition and see where the interests of gamers currently fall. This will help us all reevaluate our current situation within the community and what we can do, as a community, to keep the overall gaming community strong. In addition, I hope that these questions will trigger some critical thinking, encourage investigation, and formulate new discussions. With that, please take a solid few minutes to thoroughly read my post and its questions and answer them accordingly.

I thank you for your participation and your help.

Honestly, if anything, this has shown that leagues come and go, but e-sports will still survive one way or another off the screen, but I feel the question that should be asked is, will it ever be able to be shown on TV regularly like baseball, basketball, or hockey without the league dying off in a few years. I believe it's possible with the right administration for a league and not expanding too fast. As far as the CGS falling apart goes, I think it's just another experience for the gaming community, and it just goes to show, expanding too fast (NA, Europe, Asia, and the other places that I can't remember) won't get you very far.

Hockey for example started off with 6 teams (Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Boston Bruins), but expanded over the last century into the 30 teams in NA alone. Now they've just started playing games in Europe to try to expand slowly there, and the league itself has been successful in my opinion, but with the salary cap, and the recession, things might change.

CAL will still be CAL and as long as they're morons and idiots running around, nothing will change (personal opinion). The people who are new to the scene or unwilling to pay for CEVO will continue to play in CAL.

Personally, I see it as a challange to try to bring back what it was like pre-CGS. To some people, because of CGS, will try to make a living out of it until they realize eventually they need jobs to survive. People were making a living off of CS pre-CGS days so I'm sure some people will still do that, but only the best players.

As for the games being reintroduced, I don't really think many have died off, but thats coming from me who hasn't been around very long and still seeing many old games being played today, just not at LANs.

I love the idea, I don't really have ideas for us as a community to help E-Sports. I would probably say stay strong and keep going? I don't know.

Great idea though man! I hope more people try and answer these!

Well America is a capitalist state so somewhere along the lines you guys are going to go for the money and who wouldnt, if no one needed money for food and shit then the world would be a cooler place if resources were unlimited but alas the generation of this millenia will never solve anything like this. back to the task alot of people state that they play for fun and I too believe thats the real reason behind them staying in the esprots scene for so long as they get so much enjoyment but at some point we all want that winning for glory or money factor out of gaming so tbh its just a case of people wanting it slightly more, if there was zero cash up for grabs I'd highly doubt I'd be making this post.

Im not going to comment on cal or cgs as theyre had their fair share of reasonable and pointless threads so you should have no trouble finding those on either here, Gotfrag, cadred, thesgl, cal etc etc etc btw hope youre not going to get the whole esports community's opinion from just posting here or are you going for the coL community's opinion specifically?

Won't lie, feels great to win in any sport, but unless you plan on retiring soon, it doesn't mean a thing once the next season/game begins.

I was referring to the effort of the coL community to enlighten everyone. In my past experiences, it seems that there is a clear dedication and loyalty to the syndicate like no other. This rings true in the sense of involvement as well.
