Hi! My names Nick and I am 16 years old and I am going to be a senior in high school. This march I went to pax east in boston to compete in the team fortress 2 and league of legends tournaments. I played professional Heroes of Newerth in beta and have a lengthy history of playing other competitive games at a decently high level. While I was at pax I ate lunch at a restaurant called "Sauciety" right next to the convention center. I noticed that to my right was Jax and one of coL's players having lunch with potential partners. I'll be totally honest but I did eavesdrop on your conversation haha. I found it incredibly interesting and it got me thinking about the business side of esports. I can't remember anything in particular from the lunch besides the fact that I think the people he was having lunch with dealt with clothing items. Since I'm about to go to college I was wondering if you could give me tips or advice about what I should study in order to get into the business. I love esports and I currently manage blights (yeah i know...) League of Legends team but I would like to know if there is anything else i can do to get involved!? I have pretty good connections but not near enough experience to be a player manager or someone like Jax who gets to interact with the players for a big organization. Anyways, thanks for hearing me out and any tips or advice will be much appreciated!

You seem to be on the right path. Get your business degree and that will open up many doors. Until then, ask around bigger organizations to see if they have any internships, etc. Right now we don't have any open spots but I wish you the best!

if you're artsy there's degrees such as "Game Art and Design" most bachelor degrees will give you a good solid base on business oriented towards video games as well, but the core of the program is programming and things like 3D modeling.

Business degree's (or any degree related) is a must in order to secure a top-level position with an organization. Keep it up and definitely consider it when you start college!
