Hey I'm a CRT monitor person but I'm deciding to buy myself a LCD monitor. I found a nice ACER 22" but it sold out right before i purchased it so i found this one off newegg

what do you guys think, is it worth the price?
You should get a 2MS LCD screen, it's suppose to be a faster response time and make CS smoother. Also try to find one with 100hz if you can.

Last question about an LCD im buying it off newegg right and one is an open box for 140 or you can get the retail for 170 - is it worth 30 extra dollars to get the new one rather than open box?

hold off on buying an LCD. They're nothing amazing right now, and if your CRT pulls 100hz on something like 800x600 or 640x480, then keep it.
I've tried many LCD's, and they're not even close to the smoothness and response time of CRT's.
Keep the CRT =)

I got a 22" samsung LCD wide screen monitor and my CS plays like ass on it. I miss the 19" CRT samsung 955DF FTMFW!

Reviews: prad (L227WT) (http://prad.de/en/monitore/review/2008/review-lg-l227wt.html)

Price: ~$250 USD

Major problem: G stands for Glossy - improves color representation but the resulting Glare can be an issue to gamers.

24": BenQ G2400WD, 1920x1200 (16:10)
Panel: anti-glare TN, 72% NTSC, 16.7M colors
Inputs: HDMI, DVI-D (HDCP), VGA

Ergonomics: Tilt, VESA Mount
Info: official specs (http://www.benq.us/products/LCD/?product=806&page=specifications) | prad (http://prad.de/en/guide/screen4668.html)
Notes: Better quality than Samsung 245BW, cheaper. Less scaling lag than 2493HM and better out-of-the-box colors. 1:1 support.
Price: ~$340 USD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824014173)
Very big advantage: Matte, not Gloss, won't reflect room lights/daylight.
I bought this one for $270 during the end-year sales. Find a sale on it and get this. Amazingly good monitor for gaming and movies.

Notes: Known to have some RTA artifacts, but RTA can be disabled.
Price: ~$280 USD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001273&Tpk=t220)
.
NOTICE: RTA is Response Time Compensation - and may be needed for gaming, so problems with artifacts are bad.
Overall I think the BenQ G2400W is the best monitor at the moment, if you can find it under $300 on a sale or rebate it's a steal. The quality difference with my old Anantech recommended LG 19" is much better, the back lighting is almost not noticeable.
If you find a good price, check it out on that Anadtech thread first. The 2ms isn't indicative of anything these days, where you can easily run int light/color issues, artifacts and most importantly for gaming - input lag. You really can't tell if there will be input lag, and how many frames, without a comparison test with a good CRT.
