Starcraft and Me

Hey guys I thought I'd give a little blog post for people to get to know me, and just give you all a little view on how I became a fan of Starcraft.

My name is David Kim, I'm a Korean if you don't know by now. I'm 19 years old and ya life is good.

I started following games when I was 13 years old, and I initially got into Counter Strike and followed teams like SK and 3D a lot, then I picked up some decent internet and thought I'd try playing and get good enough like the top teams back in the day. Unfortunately, reality hit me like a brick and told me, "David, in the future players such as f0rest, n0thing, and Edward will slap you silly, so stop now while you have your dignity." Now being a wise man I knew that I'd had to stop, and I decided to try E Sports journalism. I started working for sites such as InsiderEsports, then Owngoal.org [HLTV's off shoot soccer website], and here I am now working for Complexity and also ESFIworld.

Now my passion for Starcraft didn't really start till much later in my E Sport experience. Early on my dad actually bought Starcraft right when it came out, about 1998 I think, and wow did he play like a beast, my father would stay up to 5 A.M in the morning skip work and play Starcraft. It got so bad my mom had to pay me to ask my dad if I could play, so that he would stop playing, haha, making him have to choose between his love for his son, or his love of High Templar storms. I still don't know why he was so into that game..., but as soon as I put my hands on that keyboard and mouse I got really into Starcraft, but being so young at the time, I HATED losing to the computer. Then my friend introduced me to some good old cheat codes, and I had a fun time just cheating my way through campaign. "Oh Mutalisks are raping my base, it's all good "POWER OVERWHELMING YOU FLYING DICKS", and I had a really fun time killing mutas with 1 marine.

After my initial Starcraft binge, I really lost interest in the game till much later, when my Korean friends came up to me and started talking about Boxer, Nada, and my personal favorite player Firebathero, here's why

He's just awesome. I became very interested in the scene after, and I started staying up late at night to watch ProLeague games, and OSL games, it was a blast staying up late at night with some good drinks and snacks, being on vent with my Korean buddies and just watching sick plays by the greatest players of the decade. This really just instilled in me a passion for Starcraft, and here I am today writing news about Starcraft, and combining my two loves, writing and e Sports.

Well that's pretty much it, I hope you guys will treat me well as I start writing much more, last week was a break week I guess for me. You'll be seeing me a lot more on the news this week, and I hope many of you will enjoy the various news I write for Complexity.

Thanks for reading!
