when i boot up Source I get this error message and it automatically closes
hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close
does anybody know what the problem is?

Easiest thing to do (especially if you have admin rights) is to just delete the entire CSS directory (back up all your configs/maps/custom things), and let Steam recreate the files. I had a similar problem with TF2, and that fixed it right up.

I used to have that problem. The problem was an error within Windows Vista. Im not sure if you run vista or not. If you go to SteamPowered.com and type in the exact error messeage you got it will give you all the possible solutions. Hope that helps.
