Thread: CS: GO Beta

    Default CS: GO Beta

So i was scrolling through Twitch and I saw that there has been an increase of people streaming CS: GO. Who in the community actually got a key and if you did, how do you like it thus far?

I tried it the day it came out and wasn't really a fan. However, it's been changed quite a bit since then and I've heard it's better.

I think it has improved over the past week or so, but they need to give more keys out. Id really like to test it out and determine if it can really satisfy the needs of the 1.6 and source community. So far, I think that the beta is far from being over if its supposed to unite both communities together, but then again its just my opinion.

P.S Is there a possibility that coL will expand into CS: GO considering that its the next step in Counter Strike?

    Yes, it's definitely a possibility.

Upon release, the game felt like CS: Source, minus the bad hit boxes. They have patched the game and improved it a ton. The spraying is much improved, the hit boxes are spot on, but there is always room for improvement.

The reason you have seen an increase in streamers is because anyone who had the CS:GO Beta, after the first patch came out they gave everyone a gift, doubling the population size.

It's odd i'm really torn about the beta. It's better than what i was expecting it to be and just about everythign i was hoping it to be.

The first beta everything - literally everything - was wonky but after the second beta things kept getting better and better. The last update fixed the hitboxes which were sort of a problem but now seem to be much like 1.6 rather than the bigger-than-the-models hitboxes in source. IDK what they did when they removed the fog(which helped me a lot at least) but that made the Ak and the M4 feel better and all the guns seem far more usable than just the m4/ak/awp which we see everywhere in both CSS and 1.6.

However the biggest problems for me are still there, the maps still feel wrong - not in terms of "clutter' which isn't a problem for me but i know is for a lot of others - as they changed nearly all of them so dramatically from what they were originally were in 1.6 or even source(although they were DEFINATELY bastardized in source). the most glaring example was removal of green mile to lower on nuke and the removal of a lot of trains on inside train. The grenades and the skyboxes need work too - i hate how some areas of the maps the skyboxes are fixed so you can't john elway grenades over 2 story buildings but in others you still can. IT seems a bit nonsensical that they fixed only half the terrible skybox problem in source and instead of just fixing all of it.

Overall i'd say it's shows promise but needs a lot of work. They also need to move the standard map back to something you know, standard. We still haven't gotten a chance to test nuke so idk if my complaints are real or just fantasy yet.

    TL;DR
Shows a lot of promise but needs a lot of work in order for it to be a real successor to the best FPS ever made IMO.

The skyboxes are definitely a problem that will be fixed before release. and yeah i agree with you, more guns will be used at a high level in csgo.

So do you guys think that it has to do with the ever increasing map detail that leads to the game feeling 'cluttered'? Do you think if they just made the maps the same as 1.6 (one texture for a wall and no extra scenery) it would be a lot better?

You have to realize the era we are living in now for gaming. We can't have 1.6 graphics or source graphics. Keep in mind that this is still a company trying to make money and if they have graphics that can not compete with the newer games for those who just play casually. With that reason, cs pub communities are always much larger than the competitive realm. However, with this game they are taking input from 1.6 and source pros. I know Volcano has been talking to valve on a consistent basis, and since he has played both on the big stage in both games it helps alot. The game has come along way and I am enjoying it.
