A new gaming league is hitting the scene this July and it promises to be the next big thing. Whether it'll be a change for the better or another league to crash and burn is yet to be seen.

The Worldwide Federation of Gaming was envisioned and established in late 2008 by CEO Michael A. Winchester. The slogan which W.W.F.O.G is going by is, "Built By Gamers. Backed By Gamers." The Worldwide Federation will be the first federation for gamers.

Here are a few players who are endorsing the league:

Justin Wong - 2009 Street Fighting 4 National Champion
Jerry Wang - 3 Time Yu-Gi-Oh Shonen Jump Champion
Chris Bowling - 2008 US National Yu-Gi-Oh Shonen Jump Champion
Jensen Santiago - 2008 Best Buy Super Smash Bros. Brawl State Champion
Dennis Sockwell - 2009 World Cyber Games US Open Virtua Fighter 5 Champion
Kelly "Mrs. Violence" Kelley - WCG Ultimate Gamer Contestant
Prod1gy X - Rock Band 2 World Record Holder and WCG Ultimate Gamer player
Rodney John - 4th Ranked 2008 WCG National Champion for Virtua Fighter
Michael "Yipes" Mendoza - 2007 Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Evo World Champion
Arturo "Sabin" Sanchez - 2009 WCG Fighter Club Runner up

Seems like a cool idea, but is it really the right time for it? Does it seem like it will work? Who knows.

so far it seems like it's only fighting games. If CS was involved I'd endorse it in a second.

This is the guy Slasher was talking about on LO3 a couple weeks ago at E3.

I am a huge fan of esports and do all i can to promote the sport. I try to not hate on any new idea someone has that will promote esports. But im sorry some of the things spoken of here are really bull shit.

First of all
"Jerry Wang - 3 Time Yu-Gi-Oh Shonen Jump Champion
Chris Bowling - 2008 US National Yu-Gi-Oh Shonen Jump Champion"
What does Yu-Gi-Oh have to do with competitive gaming? I mean im all for PC/Console gaming but bring TCG into the mix? im sorry thats just to far.

Besides Jwong there might be 1 or 2 others who are actually considered Pro gamers. Who is giving them advice on games/rules and all the other information that will help them to not crash after 6 months to a year? The Yu-gi-oh champions?

I could see this league replacing the CGS and failing in alot of the same ways CGS did.

PLEASE BE SMART SEEK OUT ADVICE FROM PROFESSIONALS IE the people that have been in the epsorts business for a long time and know alot about what it takes to make it work. Its not hard to find out who they are. Speak to the teams and organizations and commentators that are going strong right now and esports they are the ones that are surviing during this hard times in esports.

With that said i really hope this league works out i dont wanna see another one bite the dust.

IMO Perfect game line up to make any league succeed:

QuakeLive 1v1
CS 1.6 5v5
SC 1v1
WC 1v1
SF4 1v1

With that line up what more do you need, you can have the best from each genre. And in the future maybe add TF2 or a COD title if they cater a bit more to the competitive scene.

My personal opinion is that for a league like a CGS or WWFOG to be successful a few things nee d to take place. First thing that really needs to happen is someone with a gaming background and is highly knowledgable about gaming needs to ru nthese leagues. It jsut always seems like these leagues that are being created are by people who dont have much knowledge abotu what WE gamers what and NEED. We as gamers need a company/league that understands us and understand what exactly we are looking for in a league and its coverage. Im not sure about in Europe but here in North America your not going to get viewers for Yu-Gi-Oh.

The slogan of "Built By Gamers. Backed By Gamers" to me is a comical. Im sure if a league was built by gmaers it would be nothing like this. Unfortunetally gamers and fans always get the bad rap of not supporting leagues such as this so we are the ones to blame for the demise of esports. To me parts of that statement my be true but certainlt not 100%. Leagues need to STOP trying to model themselves after Professional sports. We are gamers. Lets create something new and unique. Gaming right now is is dire need on financial backing and sponsors and to listen to this man say they are going to have "quaters" and they are going to have cheerleaders is ridiculous. Gaming isnt the NFL so stop trying to be like them. And save the money you would spend on the cheerleaders and give it to organizations and teams for tournament winnings. We are gamers, most of us live on the computer we dont need to see cheerleaders, we know how to find free porn (lol but seriously we do).

I think its an excellent idea in concept, jsut hope they take the time to do thigns right and LISTEN and get feedback from the gamers. Understand that we gamers are both gamers and FANS! Die hard fans at that. The CGS refused to listen to the fans and ratings suffered because of it. I jsut plead to the ownership to get our opinions and listen to us. "If you build it they will come" Best of luck to WWFOG and really hope your successful because its somethign us gamers could use.

It sounds like Mr. Winchester has the right idea but the selection of the actual titles being backed by the WWFOG seem a world apart from the ones that should be. If the WWFOG would like to see more longlasting and solidfied success than the CGS did, then they better not just listen to the E-sports community but actually become a part of it like any good manager of an organization in this industry has already done. Look at Jason Lake... the reason many see him as one of the most successful and highly prestiged managers in this industry next to Craig is because he was a part of the community before he became a manager and he understood the do's and don'ts of this industry.

In my opinion, the best games the WWFOG should back and pick up is:

Quake Live- It is free of charge. And not only that it could potentially, with WWFOG's backing, reunite the dispersed Quake scene. It would definatly be interesting to see some old and new faces clash this time around such as Thresh(the first professional gamer) who dominated the early days of the Quake scene and Fatal1ty his predecessor who took the entire Quake scene after his reign go head to head. So many old and new rivalaries encompass the Quake scene and to unite them all under one roof would really make for an interesting show. The Quake scene is very colourful and diverse. There isn't always the same old faces clashing over and over. It is always interesting to watch a Quake match because you never know what will happen. Will it be the underdog? Who knows? Thats the fun of it. Take LoSt-CaUzE(Rafik) proved that with his blowout performance at WCG or more importantly against his idol Fatal1ty(whom is no pushover) right after that. Fatal1ty, LoSt-CaUzE, Stermy, really all of them sort of came out of nowhere and took the Quake scene by storm. The diversity of the Quake scene is indescribable. There is always an undiscovered talent right around the corner and if WWFOG picked up Quake Live that would serve as an excellent outlook to bring out the best of both the Quake scene and the E-sports industry as a whole.

Counter-Strike- It is an absolute classic. It is easily the cornerstone of the entire E-sports industry. The CS scene is alive and well and very diverse which is home to more talent, rivalries, and surprises than most other gaming scene within the entire E-sports industry. Looking back we had so many good times, TEC, eoL, 3D, NiP, SK, coL and now we still have much vibrant and great organizations such as fnatic and WMF. The Counter-Strike scene is more consistently active as a whole than any other gaming scene in the entire E-sports industry. It has not let up one bit over the past decade. However there are a lot of underated and unknown talents that wander about the Counter-Strike scene and if the WWFOG were to pickup would definatly make for some interesting upsets if given the chance through the WWFOG.

Starcraft- It is a great classic and at the same time a very maticulous one. The Starcraft scene has had great diversity all throughought and due to the immense popularity of it is also very difficult for undiscovered talents to break into. If the WWFOG were to pick it up that would serve as a great port for new talent to arise. Starcraft has selectively made a great living to a select few such as Moon for the past while now and has taken on an extreme, mainstream prestige in Korea. Yet it just never took off as well as it did in other parts of the world(at least on the same scale) because of the difficulty of getting out there for all the undiscovered talents lurking about the Starcraft scene. If the WWFOG were to pick up and back Starcraft it would serve as a great conductor for the entire Starcraft community as a whole and really pick up a lot of energy all throughout the world other titles such as CS has.

On top of that I think Mr. WInchester should always keep in mind to stay true to the WWFOG motto. Do not taint the faith of the E-sports industry if you are not willing to back it up. Mr. Winchester should take it upon himself to emerse himself in the E-sports industry as a member of it just like everybody else so he can embrace the history and culture gaming takes the form of. I believe he should personally meet every professional gamer(in-person), all the way dating back to the Red Annihilation tournament Thresh won after watching Frag: The Doccumentary and E-@theletes. Get to know what it means to be a professional gamer. Get to know the professional gamers. And at the same time pay close attention to the rest of the gamers in the community as well by doing frequent votes and surveys(and actually adhering to them come do-day). I believe doing the above would give Mr. Winchester an untold understanding of the E-sports industry and make him a hell of a lot more successful than the CGS ever was.

Anyways thats just my two cents, doubt he or anybody else will ever read the above walls of text, but I guess that would onl prove my point.

Let's hope it's as good as the rest.
